Unphased by this bizarre transformation, Jim decided to make the best of
the situation. He glanced away from the mirror and browsed the shelves
until he came across a book that fit his new age group. One series,
stacked up in neat numerical order, caught his eye straight away.
\\\"Animorphs,\\\" he said, grabbing the first book off the shelf. Kids used
to
talk about this series all the time back when he was in high school.
Jim leant against the shelf, opened the book and started reading. At
first the writing appeared large and symplistic, almost patronising, but
after a couple of pages he adjusted to it. In fact, it turned out the
book was very absorbing after all. It didn\\\'t take long to see why it was
so appealing. Transfixed, Jim blocked everything else out and just kept
turning the pages.
And as he did, he slowly forgot everything else. His education, memories
and behaviour warped to match his new preteen body, and he never noticed
it. Within a matter of minutes, Jim went from an adult to a kid with an
adult\\\'s mind, and finally, to a typical ten-year-old in both mind and
body.
Setting down the book, he gazed around the book store and wondered why
his friends never turned up. He had planned to do something daring, like
see an M-rated movie with them. Maybe they just didn\\\'t like books.
He shrugged and walked out of the store.
