He's a lawyer. And lawyers make their living by talking and being able to eloquently state their case. How humiliating for him would it be then that no matter what he says, how eloquent or well spoken he is...it all takes on the tone of sooooooo cute because of his high pitched voice and infantile inflections?

Good point. He would be a side-show act no matter what he tried to soap-box about.

Just giving my 2 cents, I had read the entire thread mostly commented by authors but I comment for the point as a reader and I would like to say this to all writers:

DON’T WORRY TO WRITE SOMETHING “ORIGINAL”, WORRY TO WRITE SOMETHING GOOD

I had read a lot of stories with wonderful and innovative ideas, but written by very bad authors or leaving the story incomplete… in any case you feel the idea is such a waste and if only were written different.

While a good author can be a great story teller, be fun, do a great character development; the story will be a winner doesn’t matter if the plot is not that original, actually it even can be an advantage because you may be using concepts that are known that work.

That’s more truth when you are writing about “kinks”, people like to read certain things it doesn’t matter if they are cliché.

Often I see that authors are so overstressed to write something different and to not repeat ideas that you feel that they are self-censoring.
