Gonna state this so Dreamtales knows I know it and just in case anyone out there doesn't: There's a real limit as to how many 'rewrites' of existing comics he can do. Fanfic and the like is okay, but Dreamtales charges money for his stories. I'm sure he's okay with 'Crybaby,' it's a one-off, but he could get sued for copyright infringement if he makes a habit of it.

Another reason why creating parody-versions of characters instead of using the originals probably appeals to him: He recently did a story featuring Super-Teen, clearly a knockoff of Superboy. However, he gave Super-Teen a sexy mom who also got in on the action. And I'm sure few of us would find Martha Kent from the comics especially desirable.

Anyway, we'll see how things go...

My point was, by using an original character, Super Teen, he could make up a hot mom for his story. If he'd used Superboy, he'd be stuck with Martha Kent as Superboy's mom.

In other words, he could make up his own continuity instead of using the one established for the 'real' character.

And the fact Dreamtales charges money for his fanfics means he'd be in real danger of getting sued for copyright infringement if he used Superman and/or other DC characters too often. Fanfic written for free, however, usually doesn't have this problem. This doesn't mean Dreamtales shouldn't get money for his work, only that he has to be careful when using established characters.
